Set your minds on things that are above – General Secretary to Christians.

The General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi has advised Christians not to take delight in the things of the world, but rather have their focus on things that are above where Christ is seated.

“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated, at the right hand of God”, he stressed.

He made this pronouncement during the climax of the 2019 Easter Convention at the Pentecost International Worship Center in Hamburg (PIWC Hamburg), on Sunday, 21st April, 2019.

Speaking on the theme “The Christian as an Incorruptible Person” with scriptural references from Romans 6:1-10,Romans 8:10-21, I Corinthians 2:14 & 15 and Colossians 3:1-11, Apostle A.N.Y. Kumi-Larbi stated that, Jesus Christ came to restore what man lost and so anyone who comes to Christ becomes a new creation, therefore must put to death the old man.

He added that, Christians must be people who should have their minds far away from earthly things no matter the temptation. Using the story of Joseph as an example, he said, when Joseph was tempted, he resolved not to defile himself so he fled. “Joseph fled when he was tempted, he did not blow in tongues. There are certain times, you have to runaway”, he reiterated.

According to him, Christians must put to death, anything that belongs to their earthly nature, such as sexual immorality, lust, evil desires, greed among others. He also admonished Christians to stand against anything that is unclean, sinful and whatever God’s word speaks against.

The General Secretary again indicated that, the resurrection of Jesus Christ brought mankind new life, and so Christians must endeavor not to live anyhow. “Jesus carried our sins to the cross and died with it, therefore we do not owe the body anything. If we live according to the desires of the flesh, we will die, but if we live in the Spirit, we shall forever be alive” he stated.

He revealed that, anyone who is not guided by the Spirit lives by his natural instincts and is not able to understand the things of God. Adding that, this makes such people follow societal needs rather than what the word of God tells them to do. “When God speaks, and society says otherwise, which one do you choose?” he quizzed.

Concluding his message, he urged Christians to always be thankful to God and remember what he has done for them. He also used the opportunity to commend the youth for fully participating in the Easter Convention and advised them to remain in Christ and disregard false teachings and practices that have emerged.
